The Thumb and Perhaps, LLC
November 17th, 2005 Summit
I am pretty excited. Dr. Graham and I will be taking on the Thumb in Little Cottonwood Canyon, Utah this Saturday. Does anyone have any recommendations for the Thumb Direct? We attempted to do it a week ago, but we did not plan for enough time. Fortunately, we went to the Perhaps Area and climbed Perhaps and the Green Adjective. Those two climbs are fabulous. I would be nervous in leading the Green “A.” In fact, we tried. The route is a little run-out and the protection seemed dicey. We top-roped it via Perhaps and what was initially a climb that seem like an 11 seemed then to be more like a 7. It’s amazing what confidence in your protection can do for you.
Remember: the BYU OAC is going to Maple Canyon this weekend for some sweet hiking and such. However the climbers will be up in LCC “getting high.” Let me know if you want to join us (kwilleitner@hotmail.com.)

A man
With sensible walking boots
Is striding across
The high fells in Cumbria.
Walking towards him
Along the path
Is a grey mountain troll.
As they pass,
The troll says:
“How do you know
That I am a grey
Mountain troll?”
“Because these mountains
Are grey
And you have
A disagreeable
Troll-like physiognomy,”
Says the man.
Ten years later
The man recalls
A curious detail.
The mountain troll
Was carrying
A bright orange
Gucci handbag.
