The Thumb, Little Cottonwood Canyon, UT
December 20th, 2005 Summit
Well, November 19th 2005 was the epic day that four members (Dr. Graham, Logan, Brian, and I) of the BYU Outdoor Adventure Club scaled The Thumb. It was a fantastic climb and not very hard except for two really awkward spots. The first one was about 30 ft. up on the first pitch. I found myself on a slaby section with my last piece of protection 15 ft. behind me. I eventually made it out of that section and over to a piton. The move was really easy but scary given that my protection was bad. The second awkward spot was “The Squeeze.” It was just a hug crack that you wedge your body into and then shimmied up. Very awkward, strenuous, and not much fun.
Well, here are some pictures from the expedition:

Where is The Thumb?

1.05 miles up Little Cottonwood Canyon. Best recognized by the big thumb-like block of granite at the top.
