I'm sorry you've had two horrible experiences on Mt. Rainier! It sounds like your boss had HAPE (high altitude pulmonary edema) which is often fatal when not treated by rapid descent. It's extremely rare to develop this condition at altitudes below 15,000 feet, so that's bad luck!</description>
